Lindeman Island, Whitsundays, Queensland

Thursday finds us anchored at Boat Point on Lindeman Island. Mostly calm except when then tide is at the end of the ebb and the transom of the boat faces the breeze and the wind waves slap against the stern making snoozing in the aft cabin difficult. The weather has been excellent and we have enjoyed some pleasant downwind sailing to get here. Since Yeppoon, we have visited many anchorages some good and some not so good. Port Clinton was very comfortable but featureless and a very strong tidal current. Next, was Hexham Island which was very pretty and we managed to tuck ourselves inside of the tidal stream and were very comfortable. Next on the list was Middle Percy Island which is reported to be rolly but the weather was so benign it was very pleasant except for some roll on the high tide. We spent a few days there in the company of many yachts. This spot is famous for it A frame building visited by many cruising yachts on their way up and down the coast. The tradition is to leave some relic behind to show that you were there. Some were indeed very elaborate and original. There was a beautiful, white sand beach fringed with coconut palms and it really felt good to be cruising in the tropics once again. We took a five mile bush walk to visit the homestead of the family that inhabit the island. The homestead has been there for about a hundred years with the people living of the island by farming. We spent a few nights there during the full moon and then off to Refuge Bay on Scawfell Island, 60 miles to the north. This was another very pretty sheltered spot and well worth a visit. Lots of sea turtles swimming about. Yesterday, we made the last 45 miles to Lindeman in rapid time with 15 to 20 knots of breeze behind us. Tomorrow we are going into the Marina at Hamilton Island for a good boat clean and some provisioning before the arrival of Roger and Janice who will be our guests for the next few days Photos and some Admiral comments to follow.
