We left Straits Quay Marina a few days ago and spent our first night anchored off a small island off the south of Penang. It was very quier but very hot. Next morning we set off at dawn and the weather was grey and squally. We had quite a bit of wind and we made good progress to the south end of Pangkor Island. On the next day, the weather was clear but very calm and the tide was initially against us and we made slow progress until the tide turned and we made over seventy miles to Anksa Island and the entrance to Port Klang, the largest port in Malaysia. Up at dawn again the next day, and on to Port Dickson about 65 miles south. We motored through the busy port and it was interesting to see ships from all over the world.
We arrived at Port Dickson at about 1700H.. and are enjoying air conditioned comfort after a sweaty few days.

Tomorrow, we are off on another road trip to the highlands east of Kuala Lumpur.

We are still at Straits Quay Marina in Penang but we will probably leave today and slowly meander down the Malaysian coast over the next four days down to Port Dixon. We have just returned from a short road trip to the Cameron Highlands about 250 kms. from here. The highlands are at an elevation of 4000 feet and were delightfully cool. We stayed at a wonderful little hotel called The Lakehouse in the company of the Kilkea's. The hotel was built in Tudor style by an ex-British army colonel in the sixties. The weather has definitely changed and we have had quite a bit of rain but the upside is that it is much cooler

Straits Quay marina is north of Georgetown and quite small. It is surrounded by a high end mall.

We have been at Straits Quay for a few days after some good sailing from Telaga. After our new batteries were fitted and the all the water maker leaks were finally plugged we left Telaga on Saturday, March 22 and we spent the night outside Rebak Marina and went to visit the Kilkea''s whose boat was on the hard. Next day we sailed to very quiet anchorage called Telak Chawa and spent the night there. We had good wind for most of the fifty mile run down to Straits Quay and we arrived on a rising tide at about 1500H. This was just as well as we entered the marina with the depth measuring 0.0 m. This marina is very small but very pleasant and quite close to all the attractions of Georgetown, which is a world heritage site. We have spent the past few days doing boat chores and wandering around Penang. I send my 110 m. of chain off to be regalvanized as it was looking a bit sad and it's one less job to do in South Africa. The 30 Amp charger that was bought in Reebak is not working well with my new batteries and won't go into float mode. Hopefully, I can get it switched out in Singapore.
On the weekend, we are going to take road trip to the tea plantations of the Cameron Highlands and stay in a nice hotel for a change. It's allegedly cooler in the mountains and I sincerely hope so because it's beastly hot in Penang.

We arrived in Lankawi on Friday after an easy sail from Ko Lipe. We took on fuel and found a berth at the marina.
My new batteries arrived and were fitted yesterday. They were a perfect fit but my back hurts today after the job. It seems to be much hotter and more humid here even though we are only about 25 miles from Thailand. We did get some rain yesterday as predicted, the first in over two months. We are busy cleaning up and will do some shopping tomorrow for various bits and pieces.

Back to Langkawi, Malaysia

Ko Lipe, Thailand

It looks like today will be our last day in Thailand. Very sad it is too, as we have very much enjoyed this wonderful country. We had very good breeze from Nai Harn in the south of  Phuket to one of our favorite spots, Ko Lanta and we spent two days there and then on to Ko Lipe in twenty knots of breeze. Much more wind and far less motoring this year than last year. The water maker high pressure pump was repaired by Eric of E. Siam Engineering and he did the job for not much money. I would strongly recommend him for any water maker repairs in Thailand.
Ko Lipe is much the same. Very busy tourist area but also very good restaurants, crystal clear water and excellent weather.
Back to Malaysia  tomorrow, rain is forecast for the weekend, the first for over two months. Our new batteries have arrived in Langkawi and will be fitted next week.
